National Energy Metal Resources and New Materials Key Laboratory

The National Energy Metal Resources and New Materials Key Laboratory, led by Central South University, is jointly established with 12 domestic backbone enterprises in related fields, including GEM. The laboratory was approved in May 2023 and is one of the first six national energy research and development innovation platforms announced by the National Energy Administration during the 14th Five Year Plan period. The laboratory aims to meet the major strategic needs of China's new energy industry chain and supply chain security and stability, with the goal of building an internationally first-class new energy strategy metal resource and new material guarantee technology research and development innovation platform. It carries out original innovation and key technological breakthroughs in four key directions: efficient extraction of new energy strategy metal resources, secondary resource circulation of retired new energy, advanced energy conversion materials, and advanced electrochemical energy storage materials. The construction of the laboratory will also provide guarantees for scientific and technological innovation, talent training, international exchanges, national energy security and sustainable development, the implementation of the "the Belt and Road" initiative and the "Carbon Emission Peak and Carbon Neutrality" strategy, and the independent and controllable supply chain of the energy industry chain in the field of resources and materials in China's new energy industry.
