GEM (Taixing) New Product Research Institute of Cobalt Business was established on the basis of GEM (Jiangsu) Cobalt Industry Co., Ltd in March 2020, The Institute consists of the Engineering Experiment Center, the Analysis and Testing Center and the Lithium-ion Battery Testing Laboratory. The Engineering Experiment Center is dedicated to the technical research of new cobalt products. The Analysis and Testing Center is responsible for the analysis and testing of R&D products and products of mass production, and the development of advanced and precise testing technologies. The Lithium-ion Battery Testing Laboratory is responsible for verifying the electrochemical performance of new products of cobalt business. The Institute has introduced more than 100 sets of advanced equipment such as scanning electron microscope, inductively coupled plasma spectrometer, x-ray diffractometer, atmosphere roller kiln, reaction kettle, and electrochemical testing system. These advanced experimental equipment realize the seamless connection from lab trial, pilot test to industrialization scale for the development of new products, new processes and new technologies of cobalt products, providing technical support for the development of Taixing Industry Park and the technological upgrading of the chemical system of cobalt-nickel raw materials in GEM’s other industry parks.

With the R&D concept of "Develop the world-leading experimental technology for new material engineering to serve the world's new energy", the Institute has made breakthroughs in a number of key technologies of doped tricobalt tetraoxide products, and has made remarkable scientific achievements. The Institute undertakes the commercialization project of scientific and technological achievements in Jiangsu Province and successfully obtained the recognition of Branch of National Enterprise Technology Center, as well as three provincial-level R&D platforms: Jiangsu Enterprise Technology Center, Jiangsu High-Performance Lithium Battery Cathode Material Engineering and Technology Research Center and Jiangsu Engineering Research Center of Cathode Material for High-end Energy Storage Device.
