From September 20th to 22nd, the "2023 Sustainable Mineral Supply Chain International Forum (SMISC Forum)" hosted by the China Chamber of Commerce of Minerals, Minerals and Chemicals Importers and Exporters (CCCMC) and undertook by the Responsible Critical Minerals Initiative (RCI) was held in Chengdu. Ms. Zhang Wei, vice president of GEM, was invited to attend and released the "Propossal to Take More Actions for Biodiversity Conservation in Mining Industry" on behalf of RCI and delivered a speech on the theme of "Exploiting ‘Urban Mines’ and Exploring Solutions for the Low-Carbon Mineral Supply Chains" at the forum.

At present, the global response to climate change is driving energy transformation, and the new energy industry has ushered in unprecedented development opportunities. The demand for new energy minerals in all countries has increased exponentially. Environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG)-related issues in the mining industry and mineral supply chain have received widespread attention from domestic and foreign stakeholders. Against this background, the theme of this forum is "Strengthening the governance of the mining industry, building supply chain partnership, and driving the transformation of new energy." The forum gathered more than 300 senior managers and authoritative experts from international organizations, domestic and foreign government departments, multinational enterprises, research institutions, industry organizations, social organizations, standards bodies, audit institutions, etc., who jointly analyzed ESG risks in the mining industry and challenges in supply chain governance, and explored cooperation mechanisms to build upstream and downstream partnerships with multi-stakeholder participation, aiming to promote the sustainable development of the mineral supply chain.

On September 21, Ms. Zhang Wei, vice president of the GEM, was invited to participate in the release of the "Mining Industry Participation in Biodiversity Conservation Initiative". On September 22, Ms. Zhang Wei delivered a keynote speech on "Exploiting ‘Urban Mining’ and Exploring Solutions for the Low-Carbon Mineral Supply Chains", introducing GEM as one of the few companies in the world that fully connects the upstream and downstream of new energy. The "green to green" recycling model of the full life cycle industry chain of new energy is a low-carbon practical case that achieves high coordination between the upper and lower chains of the industry. GEM's recycling industry not only solves the problem of resource shortage in the new energy industry, but also promotes the low-carbon development of global new energy industry and the global mineral supply chain. This is the route one must take to sustainable development.

As a global leader in new energy materials, GEM is committed to strengthening policy guidance and responsible procurement and due management of the mineral supply chain, strengthening corporate ESG risk management, and actively promoting biodiversity protection projects, including forest protection in mining areas, ecosystem restoration, and endangered species protection, etc. GEM combines theory with practice, helps each other with various stakeholders, and jointly promotes the sustainable development of enterprises. At the same time, GEM will continue to promote the green transformation of the global mining industry together with international organizations around the world. GEM will make the green contribution of Chinese enterprises to building a resilient and sustainable global mineral supply chain.
