From September 5th to 8th, 2023, at the invitation of Mr. Joko Widodo, the President of Indonesia, who was the rotating chairman of ASEAN, Premier Li Qiang visited Indonesia. During the visit, he attended the China-Indonesia Business Dinner held in Jakarta on the evening of September 5th and delivered a speech. Mr. Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, the Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment of Indonesia, and about 200 business representatives from both countries attended the dinner, including Professor Xu Kaihua, Board Chairman of GEM.

Premier Li Qiang stated that there was vast space and a promising future for high-quality cooperation between China and Indonesia. China was willing to expand cooperation with Indonesia in green energy, digital economy, biomedicine, artificial intelligence, and other areas to further enhance the efficiency and scope of cooperation between the two countries. He hoped that companies from both countries could strengthen high-level innovation cooperation and contribute to the development of both nations. He hoped that entrepreneurs from China and Indonesia could strive to be promoters, disseminators, and leaders of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, creating more benefits for their people and making greater contributions to building a China-Indonesia community with a shared future.

Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan stated in his speech that cooperation between Indonesia and China had significantly contributed to Indonesia's economic development and had achieved mutual benefit and win-win results. Indonesia was willing to further strengthen strategic cooperation with China, deepen the integration of industry and supply chains, achieve high-quality development, and push the bilateral relationship to a new level.

Before the end of the dinner, Premier Li Qiang shook hands and exchanged greetings with representatives of Chinese entrepreneurs, and Professor Xu Kaihua, Board Chairman of GEM, also had the opportunity to shake hands and exchange greetings.

As a model enterprise for China-Indonesia industrial cooperation, technological exchange, and cultural integration, GEM has invested $1 billion in the IMIP Industrial Park in Central Sulawesi Province, Indonesia since 2019, with the investment philosophy of "Investment in the integration of industry, technology, and culture, grow up together with the Indonesian people". A high-tech nickel resource industrial park with "technology + intelligence + green" has been constructed to help Indonesia upgrade its industry from producing laterite nickel ore to producing new energy raw materials directly, providing over 3,000 jobs for local people. An internationally advanced research center for laterite nickel ore hydrometallurgy and new energy materials has been established, promoting Indonesia's metallurgical and new energy material innovation technology to reach the world's advanced level. The first world-class nickel industrial museum in Indonesia has also been built, and the GEM-Indonesian Government-Central South University Joint International Metallurgical Engineering Master Training Program has been launched, jointly cultivating 52 Indonesian engineering masters, continuously promoting China-Indonesia technological and cultural exchanges to a new level, and becoming one of the highlights of China-Indonesia cooperation.

During the 2022 G20 Summit and the 2023 Chengdu World University Games, Chairman Xu Kaihua was received twice by President Joko Widodo, first in Jakarta, Indonesia, and later in Chengdu, China.

In the next step, GEM will continue to increase investment in Indonesia, construct a nickel resource new energy material whole industrial chain, and a waste recycling circular economy park, using green technology to serve Indonesia's economic and social development, and to jointly write a new chapter of green circulation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
