Read thousands of books and travel thousands of miles. From August 7th to 16th, 2023, students of the 2nd Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investments Affairs of Indonesia-GEM-Central South University (CSU) Joint International Metallurgical Engineering Master Training Program visited GEM. Professor Xu Kaihua, Board Chairman of GEM, Ms. Wang Min, Co-founder and Board Director of GEM, and Mr. Zhou Bo, the Director and Executive Deputy General Manager of GEM, warmly welcomed Indonesian students.

During the event, 28 Indonesian students went to GEM Wuhan Park, Jingmen Park, Jiangxi Park, Wuxi Park, Taixing Park, Shanghai Office, Shenzhen Headquarters, etc., using metallurgy as a medium to deeply experience GEM’s green recycling culture and praise the glory of China’s development achievement.

2023 is the 10th anniversary of China's "Belt and Road" initiative, and it is also the 10th anniversary of General Secretary Xi Jinping's visit of GEM. As a model of Chinese green enterprises that practice the "Belt and Road" initiative, GEM has achieved great development achievements that have attracted the attention of the industry in the past ten years.

Standing at the milestone key point of "Two Decades", GEM welcomes 28 visiting students from the 2nd CMMAI-GEM-CSU Joint International Metallurgical Engineering Master Training Program. They go deep into the production lines, wander around the parks, systematically understand the core business characteristics of urban mining and new energy material manufacturing in GEM, and explore the secrets of GEM’s green cycle for more than 20 years.

At GEM Jingmen Park, the starting point of the recycling industry of GEM, Indonesian students visited the GEM “Urban Mine” Museum, the Analysis and Testing Center of the National Urban Mining Demonstration Base, the Safety and Environmental Management Control Center, and the New Energy Raw Materials and Material Manufacturing Center. They understood the development scale and brilliant achievements of GEM's core business.

In GEM Wuhan Park, the source of end-of-life power battery recycling, the Indonesian students experienced the great power of the new energy life cycle value chain driving GEM's high-quality development.

"Wow, such a small Rubik's cube toy turned out to be a product of recycling. It's amazing!" In the GER Jiangxi Park, Indonesian students continued to explore the secret of GEM's "turning waste into treasure" and completed the GEM electronic waste recycling model "closed-loop" learning.

After feeling the surging tide of fuel vehicles to new energy vehicles and visiting the world's first cobalt industry museum, Indonesian students also went to GEM Wuxi Park and Taixing Park respectively to learn about the ambition of Wuxi Park to build a world-class "technology + intelligence + green" new energy circular economy low-carbon industrial park, and to feel that Taixing Park uses cobalt as a medium to join hands with the world and realize mutual benefits and win the cycle mission!

In the GEM (Shenzhen) Super Green Technology Research Institute, the Indonesian students learnt graphene and its composite materials research, hydrogen energy materials research, atomic deposition technology, future power materials, ultra-high nickel power core materials... and felt that GEM people dare to gnaw hard bones, dare to break into no-man's land and realize the lofty ambition of self-reliance and self-improvement in key technologies!

During the study tour, under the careful organization of GEM, the Indonesian students traveled more than 4,000 km, fully appreciated the green charm of GEM's "Limited Resources, Unlimited Recycling", and especially understood the development and construction of Indonesia's QMB Park, as well as GEM's future investment in Indonesia, production capacity release and local talent training and other corresponding measures.

"Metallurgy has built a bridge for international cooperation. We will start from here to contribute to Indonesian metallurgy and new energy, and act together for a beautiful China and a beautiful Indonesia!" During the study tour, Professor Qin Yihong and Professor Zhang Zongliang from the Metallurgy and Environment of Central South University, and Professor Yang Yu, the keynote speaker of "Hundreds of Lectures", and the famous professor from the Humanities of Central South University, visited GEM. On the afternoon of August 10, Professor Xu Kaihua, Board Chairman of GEM, gave a lecture to Indonesian students on the topic of "Dance with nickel and move towards a green future". From the future of the world, the future of nickel resources, Indonesia's nickel resources, GEM's dream, and the cooperation between GEM and Indonesia, etc., Chairman Xu Kaihua introduced the glorious history of the GEM for more than 20 years, and depicted the brilliant future of GEM joining hands with Indonesia to connect nickel resources to the new energy industry chain.

During the lecture, Chairman Xu Kaihua shared his study and entrepreneurial experience with Indonesian students. He said that GEM’s green ideal is consistent with China’s green development concept in the past 20 years. The development of GEM has been supported by China's national innovation funds and social capital, coupled with the company's continuous introduction of innovative technologies that lead the development of the industry, policy, capital and technology are indispensable, and together constitute the success of the GEM cycle for more than 20 years elements.

Chairman Xu Kaihua also said that the color of the world in the future would be green, which would lead to the subversion of the global industry, and it would be the general trend to promote the global automobile industry into the new energy era, and the development of the new energy automobile industry would drive the huge demand for global nickel resources. As the world's nickel capital, Indonesia has 50% of the world's nickel reserves and has a huge advantage in building a new energy vehicle industry chain. As the leader of urban mining and the promoter of the world's new energy industry, GEM has joined hands with international industrial chain giants to build Indonesia's QMB Industrial Park, continue to train Indonesia's international high-level metallurgical technical personnel, and help Indonesia build from laterite nickel mines to new energy batteries. industrial chain, and jointly help Indonesia enter a green era.

Indonesian students on the banks of Wuhan East Lake with clear blue waves and swaying water plants felt the vitality of "a city with mountains and rivers and half a city with lakes", witness the ecological picture created by China's adherence to the concept of green development. Under the Yellow Crane Tower, where you can only see the skyline of the Yangtze River, you can feel the majestic atmosphere of "The First Scenery under Heaven", and taste the eternal song of "The trees on Hanyang side stood out in the sun".

In Shenzhen, the youngest international metropolis in China, the Indonesian students visited the Shenzhen Reform and Opening Exhibition Hall, learned about the pulse of China's times through pictures, videos, etc., and felt the magnificent history and brilliant achievements of the tide rising from the Pearl River; climbed the Lianhuashan Park, conquered the winding mountain roads in the hot summer, and take a panoramic view of the central area, and experience the extraordinary history and majestic power of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

With a lot of harvest, the Indonesian students set foot on the return train. In the future, they will use what they have learned to lay a solid talent foundation for the development of Indonesia's new energy industry, and continue to promote China-Indonesia talent exchanges and cooperation to yield fruitful results.
