From July 21 to 23, 2022, the 2022 World EV & ES Battery Conference jointly sponsored by the People's Government of Sichuan Province and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology was grandly held in Yibin. Wan Gang, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), delivered a video speech. Huang Qiang, deputy secretary of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee and governor of Sichuan Province, and Zhang Yunming, vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, delivered a speech and jointly launched the opening ceremony of the conference. Focusing on the national "dual carbon" goals and the theme of this conference, experts from all fields of global power batteries and representatives of leading enterprises in the industrial chain gathered here and conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions, reaching a broad consensus. GEM, as the pioneer in the mining of China's "urban mines" and the world's leading power battery recycling enterprise, was invited to attend the conference and set up a characteristic exhibition hall to promote the healthy development of industrial ecology.

At the opening ceremony of the conference, Professor Xu Kaihua, Chairman of GEM, was invited to represent GEM on the stage and jointly released the 2022 World EV & ES Battery Conference (Yibin) Declaration with enterprises and relevant institutions in the power battery industry chain represented by CATL, BYD, and China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATARC). Subsequently, Chairman Xu Kaihua attended the Symposium on Key Enterprises Relevant to the Development of Power Battery Industry (Private Session) organized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, delivering a brilliant speech on behalf of the participating enterprises.

On July 22, Dr. Zhang Yuping, deputy general manager of GEM and chairman of Wuhan Power Battery Recycling Technology Co., Ltd., gave a wonderful speech on the theme of "Battery Recycling - Responsibility and Value from Green to Green" at the sub-forum with the theme of "Recycling and Utilization of Power Batteries to Achieve Green and Low-carbon Development" of the conference. In his speech, not only did Dr. Zhang Yuping analyze the core strategic resource forms in the current power battery field in detail but he also pointed out that the power battery recycling market was an urban mine with the development potential of more than 10 million tons. Meanwhile, he argued that an important way to aggregate power battery resources and establish regional coordination of the national recycling system was to build a win-win ecological circle with the upstream and downstream of the power battery recycling industry chain through directional recycling mode innovation, intending to realize the sustainable development of new energy from "green" to "green".

At the exhibition site, with the theme of "Unprecedented Global Changes in New Energy Industry, Recycling and Utilization of Power Batteries", the GEM booth adopted the overall design that highlighted the concept of green environmental protection, with the building materials capable of being recycled. At the booth site, the original-sound video of General Secretary Xi Jinping inspecting the Wuhan Park of GEM became an impressive highlight of this event, attracting people from all walks of life to stop and watch. The exhibition wall composed of 60 domestic and foreign battery packs of different brands and the "Himalayas" spliced by automobile circuit boards of different ages vividly show the unprecedented global changes from fuel-fired vehicles to new energy vehicles. The GEM booth presented diversified scenarios including the echelon use of retired power batteries, engineering machinery, two-wheeled vehicles, base station standby, robot batteries, etc., introducing in detail the world-leading ternary precursor materials created by the recycling of power battery materials. With these efforts, the GEM booth fully displayed a series of wonderful links from the recovery, disassembly, and echelon use of power batteries to the whole life cycle of high-end materials. In a nutshell, with innovation, green and high-quality development, GEM has turned the entrustment of "turning garbage into resources is both science and art", which General Secretary Xi Jinping said during the inspection, into reality, showing the world the green legend depicted by GEM.

During the exhibition, a group of people, including Zhang Yunming, vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, Luo Qiang, vice governor of Sichuan Province, Ouyang Minggao, Wu Feng, and Sun Fengchun (three academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering), leaders at all levels of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Sichuan Province and Yibin City, upstream and downstream partners, as well as friends from all walks of life, visited the GEM booth. On July 21, Chairman Xu Kaihua warmly received a delegation headed by Zhang Yunming, vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, and Luo Qiang, vice governor of Sichuan Province, and led the visiting guests to relive the classic pictures of the General Secretary Xi Jinping's visit to GEM Wuhan Park in 2013. The visiting leaders greatly appreciated the recycling-economy concept of "Limited Resources, Unlimited Recycling" upheld by GEM and its achievements in green and low-carbon industries. A series of national, provincial, and municipal media, including CCTV, Xinhua News Agency, China News Service, SRT, YBRTV, Yibin Daily, etc., went to the scene to interview in succession, speaking out for the green industry of GEM.

On the square of the Lingang International Convention and Exhibition Center in Yibin City where the 2022 World EV & ES Battery Conference is located, GEM donated a new energy transformer "Green Hercules" to Yibin, a representative work of waste art, which made its debut at the conference and became a beautiful scenery, attracting the public to stop and watch. "Green Hercules" themed sculpture, with a total height of 6.9 meters, a base diameter of 3.9 meters, and a weight of 7.8 tons, is remanufactured from more than 600 parts of scrapped new energy vehicles, scrapped power batteries, and scrapped fuel vehicles. It is 100% recycled from waste, and can reduce CO2 by 11.25 tons compared with art composed of the same weight of steel. The idea of "Green Hercules" is inspired by the movie "The Wandering Earth". Driven by the new energy planetary engine, it carries the earth on its shoulders, grabs waste, and looks up at the starry sky, which means to arouse human beings to protect the earth by "mining urban mines and developing new energy", and to be a Hercules of green development, so that the earth will never "wander". "Green Hercules" is creatively designed by GEM Co., Ltd. It’s a beautiful proof of fulfilling the "turning waste into resources" entrusted by General Secretary Xi at GEM Wuhan Electronic Waste Factory on July 22, 2013.
