In the morning of November 15, 2018, the Training Course on WEEE Management and Disposal Technology in Asia-Pacific Countries opened at the GEM Jingmen Circulation Industrial Park. This training course is sponsored by Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission, undertaken by Tsinghua University, Basel Convention Regional Centre for the Asia and Pacific Region and Technology Transfer Promotion Center for the Stockholm Convention, and supported by units including GEM Co., Ltd. Students of the training course include a total of 21 scientists, officials, experts, and scholars from Asia-Pacific countries including Cambodia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Burma, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam. The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Li Jinhui (doctoral supervisor of the School of Environment of Tsinghua University, Executive Director of Basel Convention Regional Centre for the Asia and Pacific Region), Prof. Liu Lili (Director of Office of General Affairs of Basel Convention Regional Centre for the Asia and Pacific Region and Senior Engineer), Prof. Zhang Yuping (Deputy General Manager of GEM Group), Prof. Qin Yufei (Director of Electronic Waste Cyclic Utilization Strategy Development Center of GEM Group), and relevant leaders.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Li Jinhui introduced the background of this training course, thanked the main sponsor and each supportive unit for their support, and warmly welcomed the arrival of students from various countries. Prof. Li Jinhui expressed: this training activity is a science & technology and innovation cooperation conducted by the Chinese government under the framework of “One Belt One Road” development strategy, with the goal being improving the capability of contracting parties in Asia and Pacific Region for carrying out harmless environmental management of electronic waste.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Zhang Yuping extended warm welcome to international guests and leaders coming from afar, hoped that everyone can fully understand the development of GEM and China’s electronic waste treatment industry during their study at GEM, and looked forward to carrying out relevant cooperation in the field of electronic waste treatment in the future.
Afterwards, international students made self-introductions one by one, looking forward to understanding more of the electronic waste treatment industry of China and the world through this study. After the ceremony, Prof. Zhang Yuping led students of the training course to visit the Urban Mine Museum, for them to have a better understanding of GEM’s industrial layout and development situation.
According to reports, this training course will continue until December 4. From November 15-22, certain courses will be carried out at GEM, during which international students will go on field trips to GEM Jingmen Park, Wuhan Park, and Jiangxi Park, and relevant responsible persons of GEM Group and each park will explain and analyze various topics including GEM electronic waste business strategic layout and industry analysis, pollution control technology and environmental management of electronic waste treatment process, comprehensive treatment of waste PCB and extraction of precious metal, utilization of waste rare earth and luminescent material, material refabrication technology research and progress, full cycle traceability and real-time monitoring system of electronic waste, laws and regulations and examination system of waste electrical appliance and electronic product, construction of total life cycle value chain system of new energy battery, and power battery disassembly and cascade utilization, and lead international students to visit and inspect relevant production lines at three major typical parks, to have an in-depth understanding of GEM’s two core businesses fields of “deep exploitation of urban resources and manufacturing of new energy materials.”
