At noon on April 11, 2019, Central South University、Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs of Indonesia and GEM held a seminar on mining and metallurgy, engineering and technical personnel training in Beijing. This is the first promotional meeting of the tripartite plan to jointly train metallurgical and mining engineering and technical personnel. It shows that Chinese universities and enterprises have responded positively to Chinese government\'s “the Belt and Road Initiative” and Indonesian government\'s “maritime power” strategy, and have grown together with Indonesia. Mr. Ridwan Djamaluddin, Deputy for Infrastructure of coordination ministry for Maritime Affairs, Professor Guo Xueyi, Vice President of Central South University, and Professor Xu Kaihua, Chairman of the GEM Group attended the seminar.
Indonesia has abundant non-ferrous metal resources, attracting enterprises to invest in nickel-held resources area actively and building nickel based new energy material industrial chain. However, the lack of talents in metallurgical and mining engineering in Indonesia has become an obstacle and bottleneck restricting the development of this field. On March 4th, Mr. Luhut, Minister of coordination ministry for Maritime Affairs met with Chairman Xu Kaihua to discuss the talents development in metallurgical and mining engineering in Indonesia relying on the industry and technological platform of Chinese universities and enterprises. The chairman Xu Kaihua conveyed the interest to jointly train technical talents with Indonesian government and Central South University
During the seminar, Vice President Guo introduced the basic situation of Central South University and international joint education programs. Central South University has a world-class non-ferrous metal subjects, especially the teaching and research level of the mining and metallurgical engineering ranks among the best in the world. Prof. Guo said that he will actively push on the “the Belt and Road Initiative” of the Chinese government, jointly cooperate with the Indonesian government and GEM to train professionals in the field of non-ferrous metals for Indonesia, conduct international project exchanges, and promote international economic and trade cooperation and economic development of countries along the “the Belt and Road Initiative”
