GEM Climate Change Policy

Climate change is a common challenge facing the world and bears on the future of humanity. GEM adheres to the industrial philosophy of "Limited resources, infinite circulation" and fulfills the green mission of "Recycling for future!". We uphold the green values of "Eliminate pollution, regenerate resources and benefit humanity", and pursue the vision of "Tap urban mines and build world-class green factories".By constructing waste recycling plants worldwide and developing green materials, GEM contributes as a Chinese enterprise to efficient utilization of resources and energy, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. We actively address climate change and advance climate-resilient development. As a member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), GEM takes "new energy materials manufacturing + urban mine exploitation" as its core business. We foster resource recycling models and clean energy material solutions to advance the goals of peaking carbon dioxide emissions and achieving carbon neutrality.

Green Declaration
  • Dual-Carbon Strategy and Targets
GEM has formulated a "dual-carbon" strategic goal of achieving operational carbon neutrality by 2035 and core value chain carbon neutrality by 2045. The company has also set an interim target to reduce its carbon emissions intensity per unit of revenue by 50% by 2030 compared to 2024 levels. The company is advancing efforts across various dimensions, including building a low-carbon value chain, promoting technological innovation, enhancing energy conservation and emission reduction, and adopting green energy sources, thereby actively contributing to global climate change mitigation.
  • Clean Energy
The company has comprehensively upgraded its clean energy infrastructure, launching the "Photovoltaic Planting Initiative" across its domestic and overseas industrial parks. Key facilities, including Jingmen New Materials, Qingmeibang, Jiangsu Cobalt Industry, Wuxi New Energy, and Fu'an Qingmei, have all deployed renewable energy power generation projects, significantly increasing the overall green electricity usage rate. The company's plan includes 577.532 MW of photovoltaic capacity and direct green electricity connections, of which 221.534 MW had been installed by 2025. It aims for green electricity to account for over 65% of the power supply in its core industrial parks within the next three years. In 2025, the company generated 26.27 million kWh of electricity from photovoltaics, purchased 80 million kWh worth of green certificates, produced 129.35 million kWh via waste-heat power generation, supplied 327,000 tons of steam from biomass boilers, and generated 121,400 tons of steam from waste heat recovery. Collectively, these measures reduced carbon emissions by approximately 261,300 tons, with renewable energy accounting for 25.71% of total energy consumption.
  • Zero-Carbon Industrial Park
The "Jingmen High-Tech Industrial Development Zone," jointly developed with GEM's Jingmen Park as a core participant, has been included in the first list of 52 national-level zero-carbon park pilot projects.
  • Carbon Assests Development
GEM has long been deeply engaged in the circular economy, establishing comprehensive recycling industrial chains for key mineral resources (nickel, cobalt, lithium, tungsten), end-of-life batteries, e-waste, end-of-life vehicles (ELVs), and waste plastics, continuously advancing waste reduction at source and resource utilization. The company's resource recycling industrial chain leverages its inherent carbon reduction advantages to quantify and certify green practices, transforming them into valuable carbon assets.

Water Resources Management

Water Conservation Management System: GEM implements a three-dimensional water conservation management system integrating "technological innovation, intelligent control, and personnel competency" to actively promote and supervise all subsidiary companies in carrying out various water-saving projects, comprehensively advancing the implementation of water conservation efforts. The company has established a dual-water-source supply system utilizing both municipal pipelines and surface water from river basins, prioritizing the use of river surface water for preparing industrial process water to reduce reliance on municipal tap water. Through reverse osmosis membrane technology and Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) technology, the company achieves efficient reuse of reclaimed water and distilled water, establishing a multi-level water recycling system. It encourages all subsidiaries to promote the application of relevant water-saving technologies based on local conditions, continuously improving water resource utilization efficiency.

Water-Saving Technical Renovation Measures: All company parks have implemented water-saving technical renovation measures tailored to local conditions. These include adopting "ultrafiltration + reverse osmosis" technology for washing water from battery materials and powder materials to recover freshwater, achieving 100% reuse; using a three-stage evaporation process to recover distilled water from purification wastewater after it meets pretreatment standards, achieving 100% reuse; and reusing over 30% of the ordinary water recovered during pure water production for manufacturing processes and landscape irrigation. These measures have significantly increased the parks' reclaimed water reuse rate and reduced the consumption of fresh water. In 2025, the company's total reclaimed water reuse reached 5,071,400 cubic meters, with a reclaimed water reuse rate of 15.42%.

Use of Alternative Water Sources: The company actively utilizes environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative water sources to lessen dependence on natural water resources. Through water-saving technical renovations, the addition of rainwater settlement ponds, and the reuse of rainwater and mineral processing clean water across all its parks, the company's alternative water usage reached 9,028,000 cubic meters in 2025, effectively reducing the consumption of water resources.

Biodiversity Protection

The Company profoundly understands the importance of biodiversity for the ecological balance of the Earth, human well-being, and sustainable development of enterprises. The Company follows the development concept of “ecology first, green development” and the green ethical view of “harmonious coexistence of humans and nature”, strictly adhering to the biodiversity and forest resource protection laws and regulations of the operating countries, integrating biodiversity protection into the Company’s sustainable development strategy and daily operation decisions.

The Company establishes the group office for “Green Planting, Pollution Reduction, Carbon Reduction” and creating a world-class green and low-carbon site. The office will be coordinated by the Company’s chairman with leaders from various sites and relevant functional departments to promote the implementation of green planting, wetland, and biodiversity protection work in each site, rooting and implementing the goals of “Green Planting, Pollution Reduction, and Carbon Reduction”.

Utilizing the Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool (IBAT) and the LEAP framework proposed by the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), the company conducts a comprehensive identification of biodiversity risks at its domestic and international operational sites. It systematically identifies biodiversity-related risks and opportunities across all stages of its value chain during both pre-operation and operational phases. The assessment scope encompasses the company's own operations, surrounding areas of its sites, upstream value chain activities, and downstream activities.

The company systematically implements biodiversity conservation projects to mitigate the impact of its production processes on ecosystems, with a particular focus on protecting coastal species diversity to maintain ecological sustainability. In 2025, the company completed the planting of 45,700 mangrove seedlings, successfully restoring degraded areas and forming secondary forests with multiple ecological functions such as carbon sequestration, habitat provision, and coastal protection. Concurrently, the company carried out marine and coastal zone ecological restoration in the Sumbori Islands, successfully rehabilitating 1,200 coral reef fragments with a survival rate of 85% in 2025, contributing to terrestrial and marine biodiversity protection across multiple dimensions.
