On November 26, 2024, Mr. Ren Weidong, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Xinhua News Agency, led a delegation to visit the GEM-ITB-CSU China-Indonesia Joint Research Laboratory for New Energy Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the “Joint Research Laboratory”) in Bandung, Indonesia. Professor Xu Kaihua, Chairman of GEM, and Professor Zaki Mubarok, Vice Dean of the Graduate School of Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) warmly welcomed Mr. Ren Weidong and his delegation.

Deputy Editor-in-Chief Ren Weidong visited the exhibition hall, engineering technology research center, and laboratories of the Joint Research Laboratory, gaining a detailed understanding of the lab's background, development process, and achievements. He highly praised the facility, stating that it is the most advanced laboratory he has seen in the field, representing the cutting-edge scientific and technological capabilities of China, comparable to the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway. At the training center of the Joint Research Laboratory, the China-Indonesia jointly trained engineering master’s students delivered a performance report.

At the China-Indonesia Science and Culture Exchange Conference, Deputy Editor-in-Chief Ren Weidong remarked that 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia as well as the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, underscoring the hard-won nature of peace. Reflecting on history, addressing the present, and looking to the future, he expressed great confidence. He believed that the collaboration between GEM, Bandung Institute of Technology, and Central South University would undoubtedly cultivate world-class talent. Quoting a Chinese proverb, “When destined, people meet even across a thousand miles,” he emphasized that rivers, seas, and borders cannot hinder the bond between nations. He affirmed that the partnership between China and Indonesia could sustain an ocean of peace, and through joint development and cooperation, the two countries are poised to create a brighter future and a field of hope together.

Professor Zaki expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the collaboration with GEM and Central South University in establishing the Joint Research Laboratory. He noted that the lab has provided an excellent research platform for faculty and students, fostering mutual progress and development alongside GEM and Central South University. Highlighting that Indonesia and China are two major nations in Asia and close friends, he expressed confidence that the two countries will make even greater contributions to global peace and development in the future. He encouraged the jointly trained engineering master’s students to study diligently and work together to build a better Indonesia.

Chairman Xu Kaihua first expressed his gratitude to Xinhua News Agency for bringing strong support. He stated that the visit by Xinhua News Agency is a recognition of the Joint Research Laboratory, as well as an acknowledgment of the development of Chinese enterprises in Indonesia and the joint training model. He thanked Bandung Institute of Technology for collaborating with GEM and Central South University to establish the laboratory, showcasing Chinese technology and benefiting Indonesia with it. He remarked that expanding internationally is not easy, and the strength of the nation is the most powerful backing for Chinese enterprises developing abroad. He emphasized that the Chinese government, Chinese universities, and Chinese media organizations like Xinhua are the solid foundation for the success of Chinese enterprises overseas. Chairman Xu also expressed his belief that the China-Indonesia jointly trained engineering master’s students are all outstanding and will certainly become the pillars of Indonesia’s national development in the future.
