GEM New Energy Materials Research Institute was established in October 2016. The research institute has a technology research and development center and an analysis and testing center. The technology research and development center is committed to the development of ternary cathode materials for automotive power batteries and lithium cobalt oxide cathode materials for high-end electronic products, and the exploration of advanced key technologies; the analysis and testing center is responsible for the analysis and testing of massively produced products and developed new products, and developing advanced testing technologies. The Institute has introduced more than 100 sets of advanced equipment such as scanning electron microscopes, X-ray diffractometers, inductively coupled plasma spectrometers, atmosphere roller kilns, electrochemical test systems and so on. The team now consists of more than 50 technology researchers, including 2 foreign experts, more than 10 doctoral researchers and industrial experts, more than 20 postgraduate researchers, and 1 talent from the “Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program” of Jiangsu Province. Active partnership has been conducted with Soochow University to jointly establish the Enterprise Graduate Workstation and the School-Enterprise Joint Laboratory of Jiangsu Province. Boasting remarkable outcomes from scientific researches, the Institute has made breakthroughs in an array of key technologies of lithium-ion battery cathode materials, submitted more than 200 patent applications among which 70-odd patents have been granted, and issued 2 SCI papers. It has undertaken the Technological Fruit Conversion Project of Wuxi, the Innovative Leading Team Project of Wuxi, and the Industry Foresight and Key Technology Project of Wuxi. Three of its provincial-level research and development platforms have been certified, which are Jiangsu Enterprise Technology Center, Jiangsu Engineering Technology Research Center (for technology), and Jiangsu Engineering Research Center (for development and reform).
