At 17:00 p.m. on March 6, 2021, GEM held a ceremony in the International Conference Hall in GEM Jingmen Industrial Park to celebrate the upcoming overseas presence of its nickel resource project team in Indonesia. The ceremony was attended by GEM Board Chairman Prof. Xu Kaihua, GEM Director Ms. Wang Min, Vice President Mr. Wu Guangyuan, Vice President Dr. Zhang Kun, Chief Accountant Mr. Chen Binzhang and other top management, all staff of GEM Indonesia Nickel Resource Project Department and representatives of the family members of its going-overseas employees.

In the era of changes, GEM has stepped onto the fast track of new-energy development, embracing the historical opportunity of green development. Ternary lithium battery is the mainstream power battery of EVs, and nickelic development is the mainstream direction of power battery, which highlights the strategic position of nickel resource. Indonesia has a unique advantage in both nickel production and reserve. In 2018, GEM took the lead to establish partnership with Tsingshan Group to get into nickel resource base in Indonesia for the 500,000-ton nickel resources. At present, GEM is accelerating the construction of its nickel resource project in Indonesia and plans to complete it in 2021. Upon completion, the project will effectively meet the strategic demand for nickel resources, which is aroused by the expanded capacity of GEM battery materials business in the future. In this way, it will help enhance the company’s supply guarantee ability and core competitiveness in the global field of manufacturing ternary battery raw materials.

The 31 staff of GEM, about to going overseas for this project, shoulder the responsibility and mission to “complete the construction Indonesia nickel resource project on schedule in 2021, so as to secure the strategic nickel resources as the new energy for China”. They shoulder the great expectations of more than 5,000 GEM employees, carry on the glory and dream of GEM, strive to be the vanguard of GEM to guarantee the nickel resource supply and take roots in overseas operations.

At the ceremony, GEM Board Chairman Prof. Xu Kaihua expressed his encouragement and heartfelt gratitude to the going-overseas staff and their family members. “Our cheers go to both the male and female employees about to start their overseas work. In particular, our gratitude goes to their family members, who are genuine heroes.” He said that GEM overseas staff should work as the exploring ox and compete against leading company in the industry while learning from entrepreneurs in coastal regions who are brave to go overseas and realize their goals by overcoming all difficulties. He encouraged them to establish the spirit of pioneers in Indonesia, win the campaign of building nickel resource project in Indonesia, and help GEM succeed in its overseas operations, strive for world reputation, and stand in the forefront of the world industry.

Mr. Liu Huanyu, head of the going-overseas staff of GEM Indonesia Nickel Resource Project Department, spoke on behalf of the staff about to working overseas. He paid high respect to the families of going-overseas staff, saying they have all their family members and GEM as their strong support. He said overseas staff of GEM Indonesia Nickel Resource Project Department will follow up with the pace of GEM, grow and prosper together with GEM. This moment will become a highlight moment in life, which is worth remembering for a lifetime. All staff in GEM Indonesia Nickel Resource Project Department will work hard to make up for the lost time and build the project successfully.

Ms. Zhu Hanliu, one of the two female employees in the 31 going-overseas staff, does not feel afraid at all. Her father, Mr. Zhu Jun, is also a GEM employee who has worked for years in it. He feels proud of his daughter, saying it is an opportunity and mission for her daughter to work overseas for GEM. It is also an honor for his entire family. Mr. Zhu feels assured that his daughter works for GEM, telling her to work hard in Indonesia, take care of herself, improve her abilities, hoping she can make contributions to the strategic development of the company and return to the country as soon as possible.

Afterwards, Prof. Xu Kaihua presented flag to overseas staff, which means giving the responsibility to them. Liu Huanyu led all the overseas staff to sign the commitment letter. The 31 overseas staff showed great confidence and solemnly swore in the witness of all the participants: “I am a member of the GEM Indonesia Nickel Resource Project Department. I will aim high and get determined to achieve big. I will show greatest bravery and determination to overcome all difficulties, make up for the lost time and complete the construction of GEM Indonesia Nickel Resource Project in 2021, so as to realize the shareholders’ expectations for the project and win the campaign of China to secure nickel resource as the new energy.”

After attending the ceremony, the going-overseas staff of GEM would embark on their travel to Indonesia the next day to reach the nickel resource project site for the green future and spring of new energy.

In 2021, COVID-19 pandemic control will remain a difficult task in overseas countries. In order to protect the health of overseas staff, GEM has organized all its overseas staff to vaccinate the COVID-19 vaccine while preparing adequate pandemic-prevention supplies for them. When they are away from home, the overseas staff are most concerned about their families. In order to alleviate them from worries, We keeps in touch with the family members of its overseas employees at any time to provide all kinds of help to them. Shi Xin, in charge of (domestic) administration and logistics in GEM Indonesia Nickel Resource Project Department, said: “Please feel assured to work in Indonesia because your home is our home, your family is our family. For anything you need in work or life, you can come to me. I will try my best to help you solve difficulties and problems”.

Set foot on the journey to Indonesia; get determined to fulfill the mission! With the goal of 2021, the overseas-staff of GEM will go to Indonesia to start a new round of campaign. They will not be scared by the difficulties; they will bear in mind the mission and fight with high morale. With the fighting spirit of “diligent and pioneering ox”, they will work hard for the strategic goal of “striving for the 14th Five-year Plan and making more than RMB 30 billion revenues”.
